Let's not talk politics!
(but I think they did!)
The first grill and chill party
Under the guidance of Deb Dougherty (in the orange top in the picture on the left) the Sumter County Democrats held their first Grill and Chill party at Sea Breeze Recreation Center in the Villages Sunday April 28th.
The idea was that in an off year for elections it would be a great time to relax and socialize with food, games, water sports and conversation about topics other than politics. That was before 20 Democrats announced they were candidates for President and Mueller's redacted report was released.
In spite of a beautiful day, comfortable water temperatures in the pool, interesting games and plenty of food, some political conversation popped up here and there.

Overall a great time was had by everyone, and there was conversation about a second annual Grill and Chill in 2020.

Notes about the May 11th meeting of the Villages Democrats
Breakfast has moved!
|
Hacienda Hills
Country Club who have hosted us for a couple of years has shut down.
It can be a challenge to find a place large enough for us to be together in one room and where we don't interrupt their usual business trade, but we have a new spot to meet already! On the 4th Tuesday of every month at 9 am join us for breakfast at World of Beer at Spanish Springs! They will be providing the same buffet breakfast at the same cost and with the same smiling service! We will send out a reminder closer to the day, but mark your calendars now - this is a wonderful social event that is open to all Democrats, not just Villagers.
The May 11th meeting will be held at the Colony Cottage Recreation Center as usual,
with the doors opening at 9:00 am and the meeting starting at 9:30 am.
Members interested in education issues are invited to a brief meeting with EPICin
the back corner of the meeting room when the regular meeting concludes.
Thank you for being a member, your membership is key to party success.
Please check as to whether your dues are up to date. Dues are our main source of income. Information on membership can be found on the website and membership committee volunteers are available as you come into the meeting.

Fox News legal analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano
is not going
easy on President Trump.
In a scathing op-ed and accompanying video Napolitano said that special
counsel
Robert Mueller’s report on Russian attempts to influence the 2016
presidential election
and Trump’s efforts to cover it up showed a clear pattern
of criminal behavior.
“When the president
asks his former adviser and my former colleague K.T. McFarland
to write an
untruthful letter to the file knowing the government would subpoena it, that’s
obstruction of justice,” Napolitano said in his video.
“When the president asks
Cory Lewandowski, his former campaign manager,
to get Mueller fired, that’s
obstruction of justice.
When the president asks his then White House counsel to
get Mueller fired
and then lie about it, that’s obstruction of justice.
When he
asked Don McGahn to go back to the special counsel and then change
his
testimony, that’s obstruction of justice.
When he dangled the pardon in
front of Michael Cohen in order to keep Cohen from
testifying against him,
that’s obstruction of justice. Why not charge him?”
The House Judiciary Committee has subpoenaed McGahn to
testify on what he
told Mueller about Trump’s orders to fire the special
counsel. While Mueller made no
determination on whether to recommend criminal
charges against the president for
obstruction of justice, Attorney General
William Barr decided not to do so.
The White House has indicated that it will fight the
subpoena that would compel
McGahn to appear before the committee, and Trump tweeted that
he would have
been within his legal rights to fire Mueller. ”As has been
incorrectly reported by the
Fake News Media, I never told then White House
Counsel Don McGahn to fire
Robert Mueller, even though I had the legal right to
do so. If I wanted to fire Mueller,
I didn’t need McGahn to do it, I could have
done it myself. Nevertheless,.....Mueller
was NOT fired and was respectfully
allowed to finish his work on what I, and many
others, say was an illegal
investigation (there was no crime), headed by a Trump
hater who was highly
conflicted, and a group of 18 VERY ANGRY Democrats.
DRAIN THE SWAMP!”
Napolitano, who once told friends that Trump had considered
nominating him for
the U.S. Supreme Court, took a very different view of the
actions of the president
described in the Mueller report.
“The president’s job is to enforce federal law,” Napolitano
wrote. “If he had ordered
its violation to save innocent life or preserve human
freedom, he would have a moral
defense. But ordering obstruction to save
himself from the consequences of his
